First and foremost, Ozone is the story of a friendship. Etienne Gounot and Eric Jähnke were just 25 when they met, sitting at adjacent desks in an office where they both worked as industrial engineers. Six years later, something clicked. They abandoned mapped-out careers to give free rein to their creativity. This decision led to the creation of Ozone in 2000. Wonderfully combining magic, architecture and technology, light was the spark, the source of their inspiration. Since then, the two founders have specialized in lighting design and have realized a great deal of collection pieces as well as challenging custom installations for architects, decorators and corporations.
For each application, the luminaires are designed around the light, focusing on the expected lighting result. The function is carefully studied along with a good feeling in the room. The references are the sun and the sky with their thousand shades, from cold light to warm light, from sharp shadows to a soft diffusion, from the uniformity of color to the subtlest gradations. They also are memories of particular moments when space and people are suddenly wrapped in a magical light, creating intimacy with what surrounds us and ourselves.
Ozone blends the immateriality of the light to the materiality of the object by embracing the tradition of the Parisian métiers d’art. Craftsmen such as metal smith, polisher, glass blower, stone-cutter build timeless and precise parts that are then assembled in Ozone workshop in Paris. Eventually the best components from the always moving world of lighting technologies are embedded in the fixtures. The assembly details, surface finishes and light performance of Ozone lightings are destined to be of the highest level.
Starting from an essential approach, Eric and Etienne imagine clean lines composing a bold geometry that is sometimes classic, modernist or minimal. Their creations ally force and calm, presence and absence. They look for interstices through which the light of the soul filters. Most products have risen from projects with large luxury brands and sought-after architects. For some of them, Ozone has opened their collection which now includes models designed by Michel Boyer, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Joseph Dirand, Pierre Paulin, Régis Botta, and recently by the Belgian architect Glenn Sestig.
The next event, early 2021, is being the launch of Embrun collection designed by Eric and Etienne. It aims at a new level of chic and timeless elegance.
