À propos

Vitra is a Swiss company dedicated to improving the quality of homes, offices and public spaces through the power of design. Founded in 1950 and since then run as a family business. Visit the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein near Basel.
Creating innovative products and concepts with great designers is Vitra’s essence. They are developed in Switzerland and installed worldwide by architects, com…panies and private users to build inspirational spaces for living, working and shopping as well as public areas. With its classics Vitra represents groundbreaking 20th century design. Today, in combining technical and conceptual expertise with the creativity of contemporary designers, Vitra seeks to continue pushing the boundaries of the design discipline. A family business for eighty years, Vitra believes in lasting relationships with customers, employees and designers, durable products, sustainable growth and the power of good design. The Vitra Campus with buildings by some of the world’s leading architects and the Vitra Design Museum with its exhibitions on design and architecture, design archives and a comprehensive furniture collection are all part of Vitra. They inspire visitors, inform the design process and create an atmosphere in which innovation flourishes. Home The Vitra Home Collection encompasses furniture, lighting and accessories for private interiors, including such well-known classics as the Eames Lounge Chair and the Panton Chair, as well as numerous pieces by contemporary designers. The Vitra Home Collection follows the principle of collage – the idea that a vibrant living space is not achieved by conforming to a unified plan, but rather gains character through a mix of old and new, high and low, classic and contemporary. Office For more than fifty years, Vitra has developed office furniture that is innovative, functional and aesthetically appealing. The role of the office has grown in importance over the years, with intelligent spatial solutions making a significant contribution to the identity and success of today’s companies. Vitra works closely with the client to devise tailored interior concepts that help reconcile the growing demands of daily life – acceleration, technological progress and social change – with the individual corporate culture of the company. For Vitra the furnishing and design of offices, alongside public spaces such as airports and hotels, provides a welcome opportunity to demonstrate the positive impact of design. Public Ever since Vitra began to produce furniture designs by George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s, the company has also devoted its attention to the outfitting of public spaces. Vitra regards the furnishing of public interiors – in airports and train stations, in cultural and educational institutions, or in cafés, restaurants and hotels – as a welcome opportunity to demonstrate the positive influence of design. Many of the world changing companies started out in garages, and today the world’s most innovative companies are bringing that garage spirit in-house. Today’s corporate garages are highly flexible, customizable environments where thinkers, makers and developers of all stripes can thrive. The foundation of Vitra’s corporate Garage is Hack a highly flexible desk system with a height-adjustable work surface. Hack can also be turned into a sofa, and when not in use, the system collapses into a flat box, allowing workstations to rapidly shrink or multiply as needed. www.vitra.com/hack Directed and produced by Studio AKFB, akfb.com Director of Photography: Doro Götz Art Direction and Set Design: Studio AKFB Editor: Florian Riegel Composer: Manuel Chittka Thanks to Claas Bräutigam, Basti Dingemann, Lucas Dobslaw, Anja Fleig, Silvia Giordano, Juliane Groβheim, Roman Häbler, Anna Kerner, Michael Kleinkems, Jolanda Kubasch, Tom Meyer, Phillip Prohl, Christina Maria Ruederer, Michael Salzberger, Louisa Sawatzki, Markus Zeiher Filmed at Vitra Design Museum Office, Weil am Rhein

  • Silent Wall

    18 déc. 2012

In open-plan offices, the division of space and optimisation of acoustics are essential to creating a pleasant and productive work environment. Achieving effective space division and acoustics often involves using permanent in-built components. However, such components are complicated to install and inflexible. The Silent Wall modular system by Arik Levy offers a flexible alternative for this purpose. Silent Wall consists of solid wall elements with excellent acoustic properties. This simple system facilitates a great variety of configurations and uses. Silent Wall divides rooms, separates work areas from one another, creates clearly defined zones for teams and defines walkways. With a roof, Silent Wall can create a "room within a room" for focused work. The system's design allows for the integration of electricity and can therefore be equipped with lighting. Belief in progress and growing economic prosperity were central aspects of the American way of life around 1950. Everything seemed possible, and people strove to be 'modern'. With the aim of bringing modern design into American homes, George Nelson conceived a wide array of everyday objects: lamps, clocks and other domestic accessories. Up until the 1970s, the Nelson office created many different items for the home, including the Bubble Lamps and the Ball Clock, which became icons of mid-century modern design. www.vitra.com/wallclocks

    20 févr. 2018

'Getting the most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least': with these words, Charles and Ray Eames described one of their main goals as furniture designers. None of their other designs come as close to achieving this ideal as the Plastic Chairs. For years, the designer couple explored the fundamental idea of a one-piece seat shell moulded to fit the contours of the human body. After experiments with plywood and sheet aluminium in the 1940s produce unsatisfactory results, their search for alternative materials led them to glass-fibre reinforced polyester resin. www.vitra.com/epc

  • Aluminium Chair EA 101, 103, 104, Charles & Ray Eames

    20 févr. 2018

The Aluminium Chair is one of the great furniture designs of the twentieth century. Charles and Ray Eames originally designed it in 1958 for the private residence of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana (USA). For the construction of this chair, Charles and Ray Eames departed from the principle of the seat shell, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminium side members to create a taut but elastic sling seat. The chair adapts to the body of the sitter and is exceedingly comfortable, even without elaborate upholstery. www.vitra.com/aluminiumgroup

  • Suita, Antonio Citterio

    20 févr. 2018

The Suita sofa system combines light and slender volumes with an industrial and technological aesthetic. The geometrically precise body and cushions seem to float above the sleek, bridge-like aluminium legs, which can be seen as a tribute to mid-century American design. The Suita sofa family consists of many individual components. These can be used as independent elements or freely combined to adapt to all kinds of interior environments and furnishing needs. ww.vitra.com/suita

  • HAL, Jasper Morrison

    20 févr. 2018

'Special is generally less useful than normal': this statement sums up Jasper Morrison's guiding principle for creating designs that are not extraordinary but rather 'super normal' and – just like HAL – that show deference to the dictates of daily life. With HAL, he has reinterpreted the multifunctional shell chair and created a versatile family of chairs with a clean contemporary look. The shape of the seat shell provides great freedom of movement in a variety of sitting positions – even sideways or astride the chair. www.vitra.com/hal
