  • The Sululta Project (Ethiopia) - The Red Cross Well

    20 août 2019

Polluted water from streams and rivers, little sanitation and lack of hygiene are part of everyday life in Ethiopia for many people. Nestlé Waters wants to make a difference in Sululta, with help from a strong partner: the Ethiopian Red Cross. Together, a WASH project was launched with the aim of improving water supply and local hygiene. A well now provides people with clean water in three separate areas: drinking water, washing facilities and cattle watering. The programme also included support for a school. The associates at the Red Cross provided students with practical tips for better hygiene – and the sanitary facilities were extensively renewed.

    20 août 2019

Being a company in Sululta means more than just running a plant, and for Nestlé Waters it means taking responsibility. First, as an employer of 209 people from the region and from nearby Addis Ababa. It then also means the sustainable use of water resources. At the plant, for example, we diligently work to use as little water as possible. Within the framework of the Alliance for Water Stewarship, Nestlé Waters also works with the community in Sululta to improve the situation for local people. This included the construction of a water station and the implementation of a WASH project with the Red Cross.

  • The Sululta Project (Ethiopia) - The Water Station

    20 août 2019

Turning the tap on at home and filling fresh drinking water is not possible for many people in Ethiopia. Even in the city of Sululta, many inhabitants have little access to clean water. The reason for this is that, although the region is rainy and has abundant water resources, there is often a lack of infrastructure to support people. Nestlé Waters is active on the ground through a joint venture in cooperation with an Ethiopian company and wishes to help improve the situation for the local people. In close cooperation with the municipality, a first project started: the construction of a water station. People living around the Nestlé Waters plant can now get clean drinking water every day.

  • The Sululta Project (Ethiopia) - The Development Plan

    20 août 2019

Sululta is a splash of green in the heart of Ethiopia, with extensive meadows, forests and natural sources making it unique. But challenges such as urbanization, pollution, and overgrazing are a major contributor to the landscape, and what can be done about this? Nestlé Waters addressed the Addis Ababa University with that question. A team of experts around the director of the Water and Land Resource Center analysed the situation in Sululta. They looked at the risk factors and possible options in great detail, creating a plan for the sustainable development of Sululta. It should help to exploit the potential of the region while protecting the environment.

Of the region’s 120,000 inhabitants, 60 percent are affected, owing to the lack of infrastructure to provide them with water.
